About Jindal Star GI & MS Pipes
What the pipes are, how the classes differ, and which standard applies to which size.
Jindal Star GI (galvanised iron) and MS (mild steel black) pipes are supplied to IS:1239 Part-1 in the 15MM to 150MM range, and to IS:3589 for large-diameter sizes from 200MM to 600MM. GI pipe carries a zinc coating for corrosion resistance in water and outdoor lines, while MS black pipe is the uncoated equivalent used where coating is not required. Each IS:1239 size is made in three wall-thickness classes: Light (Class A) for low-pressure and light plumbing duty, Medium (Class B) as the general-purpose standard for most water and gas lines, and Heavy (Class C) for higher-pressure and structural use.

How to Read This Price List
Five things worth knowing before you compare rates or place an order.
The three classes
Each IS:1239 size is listed in Light (A), Medium (B) and Heavy (C). The number that changes between them is wall thickness, not bore — a 50MM pipe stays 50MM nominal across all three classes, but the Heavy wall carries more pressure and weighs more. Most water and gas lines use Medium; step up to Heavy for pressure or structural duty.
Rates are per metre
Every figure is Rupees per running metre, in line with how IS:1239 and IS:3589 pipe is manufactured and billed. One standard pipe is about 6 metres, so multiply the per-metre rate by six for an approximate per-length price. Billing is always on actual measured length at dispatch.
Ex-Delhi, GST extra
Listed rates are Ex-Delhi Warehouse. GST at 18% is added on top, and cartage or freight to your site is extra as per actual. The rate prevailing on the dispatch date applies, since steel prices move through the week.
IS:1239 vs IS:3589

Why the list is per metre, and the per-kg figure buyers ask for.
As a rough guide, Jindal Star MS and GI pipe works out to about Rs. 65 to Rs. 68 per kg. This changes with size and moves daily with the steel market, so use it only as a rough figure.
Pipe to IS:1239 and IS:3589 is sold and billed per running metre, not per kg, because every size has a fixed weight per metre. The per-kg rate is worked back from the per-metre rate and the pipe weight — it is not how the pipe is billed.

Choosing the Right Pipe
Four decisions most buyers work through before ordering.
Light vs Medium vs Heavy
The class sets wall thickness at a fixed outside diameter, so a pipe of a given size looks the same from outside but carries a different pressure rating. Light (Class A) is the thinnest wall, meant for low-pressure and light plumbing where cost matters more than duty. Medium (Class B) is the everyday standard that covers most water and gas lines. Heavy (Class C) has the thickest wall for higher-pressure mains and structural use. When a line is under pressure or doubt, step up a class rather than down.
GI vs MS (Galvanised vs Black)
GI pipe carries a zinc coating that resists corrosion, which is why it is specified for potable water, outdoor runs and fire lines exposed to moisture. MS black pipe is the same base steel without the coating, used for gas, structural fabrication and internal runs where galvanising adds cost without benefit. How Pipes Are Sold
Standard pipe comes in lengths of about 6 metres, which is roughly 20 feet, and is billed per running metre on the length actually measured at dispatch. To estimate a per-length price, multiply the per-metre rate by six. Cutting, threading and socketing are handled at dispatch on request. IS:1239 vs IS:3589
The two standards split the range by size. IS:1239 Part-1 covers the everyday 15MM to 150MM sizes, sold by Light, Medium or Heavy class. IS:3589 covers large-diameter pipe from 200MM to 600MM, where you choose a wall thickness in millimetres directly rather than a class. Knowing which standard your size falls under tells you which of the tables above to read.

Common duties for Jindal Star GI and MS pipe.
Plumbing & Water Supply
GI pipe is the default for potable water risers, distribution lines and outdoor runs, because the zinc coating resists the corrosion that untreated steel would suffer in contact with water. Light and Medium class cover most building plumbing, while Heavy class is chosen for tall risers and higher-pressure feeds. Threaded GI joints with matching fittings keep these lines serviceable for decades.
Fire-Fighting Lines
Hydrant and sprinkler mains are specified in Medium and Heavy class pipe so they hold the test pressures required by fire codes. GI is used where lines are exposed or wet, and the consistent wall thickness of IS:1239 pipe gives the pressure margin these systems depend on. Sizing usually runs larger than plumbing to carry the required flow.
Structural Fabrication
MS black pipe is a workhorse for columns, handrails, sheds, gates and general fabrication where coating is unnecessary. It welds and bends predictably, and Heavy class sections carry real structural load. Because it is uncoated, it is typically painted or treated after fabrication to protect against rust.
Infrastructure & Industrial
Large-diameter IS:3589 pipe carries water transmission mains, bore-well casings and plant piping where 200MM and above is needed. Wall thickness is chosen to match burial depth and internal pressure. What is the price of a 20 feet Jindal pipe?
