Compared by the Dealer Certified for Both

Jindal Star vs Jindal Hissar — An Honest Comparison

A like-for-like look at two genuine ISI-marked pipe brands (Jindal Hissar is also spelt Jindal Hisar), from the Delhi distributor that stocks and sells each of them.

Certified for Both

A comparison is only as trustworthy as its source: Vijay Sales Corporation is an authorised dealer of each brand, so nothing here is written to push one over the other.

The Answer, in Five Lines

Five different questions, one line each. The rest of the page expands whichever matters to you.

Companies
Two separate manufacturers — not two labels off one line.
Weights
Identical per size and class; the Indian Standard fixes them, not the maker.
Size range
Star reaches larger diameters; square and rectangular sections come only from Hissar.
Price
Neither is simply cheaper — it flips by size once each brand's discount is applied.
Freight
Delivered cost often turns on whose plant sits closest to your site.

Straight Talk on Price

Which Brand Is Cheaper? The Honest Answer

Both publish a printed list, and it is tempting to lay the two lists side by side and declare a winner. That comparison is worthless. Each brand runs a different discount off its own list, and those net rates shift with the steel market from week to week. On one size Star finishes cheaper once its discount is applied; on the next size the position reverses and Hissar comes out ahead. Anyone who ranks the brands on bare list numbers — as most online comparisons do — ends up with the wrong answer and, often, the costlier pipe.

The only true comparison is net-to-net, on your exact sizes, on the day you buy. Send one requirement list and we quote each brand together, net, the same day — you decide with real numbers, not list prices.

Plants & the Map of Advantage

Each brand ships ex-works from its nearest plant, so where you build changes what you pay to receive.

Jindal Star

Five plants, coast to coast

Jindal Hissar

Three plants, North to East

Building in the South? Star's Bellary and Hyderabad mills usually land material for less. In Haryana and the North, the Hisar plant is practically at the doorstep. Across the West (Nagothane, Khopoli) and the East (Jharsuguda for each) the two are evenly matched, so price and stock decide. On Weights

Weights: Settled in One Paragraph

There is nothing to compare. Nominal weight per metre and wall thickness are written into IS:1239 — the standard sets them, so a 50MM Medium pipe weighs the same whichever brand rolls it, give or take the permitted −10% tolerance that applies equally to each. Choose on price, size or freight; never on weight.

The Decision

Which Should You Choose?

Read it against the axes above — then let the quote settle it.

Lean Jindal Star if…

  • Your drawings call for diameters beyond 400MM.
  • The site sits nearer its southern or western mills.
  • You want the longest continuous pedigree behind the pipe.

Lean Jindal Hissar if…

  • You are buying in North India, close to Hisar.
  • The same order needs square or rectangular sections.
  • You need the newer 350/400NB, or PHE-tender familiarity.

Honestly, either — so…

  • For standard sizes the pipe is interchangeable on paper.
  • The gap is net rate and freight for your list.
  • Let one quotation price each and pick the winner.
Approved Makes

Your BOQ Says “Jindal” — Which One Do You Buy?

If the tender or BOQ names a make outright — “Jindal Star” or “Jindal Hissar” in so many words — supply precisely that. An approved-makes list is a contractual clause, and slipping in even an equal pipe can freeze your running bill at inspection.

When it only reads “Jindal” or “Jindal make”, either brand will usually clear it, since each carries the ISI mark to the same Indian Standard. Even so, get the consultant's written yes before you order. We can hand over each maker's BIS licence numbers and mill certificates for the approval file, so the query is settled on paper rather than over a phone call.

Stuck on an approved-makes query? WhatsApp the BOQ page across — we settle these daily and will tell you straight which make it clears.

Spot the Real Thing

How to Identify Genuine Material

“Jindal” is among the most imitated names in steel — so read the pipe itself before you pay.

On Jindal Star pipe

  • The brand name embossed or stencilled along every length.
  • A class colour band — yellow for Light, blue for Medium, red for Heavy.
  • The ISI mark with its licence number printed on the pipe.

On Jindal Hissar pipe

  • The trademark — “JINDAL” over the map of India in an oval, “HISSAR” beneath — embossed on the wall.
  • The ISI mark alongside the CM/L licence number.
  • The same Light / Medium / Heavy colour band.

Works for either make

  • Demand the mill test certificate with your supply — Star sample TC / Hissar sample TC — and match the heat / lot numbers to the pipe.
  • Buy from an authorised dealer and ask to see the dealership certificate — each is linked in the trust strip at the top of this page.

Doubtful about material someone else supplied? Send photos of the markings on WhatsApp — we handle each make daily and will tell you what you are looking at.

Compatibility

Can You Mix the Two Brands on One Project?

Dimensionally, yes. Since each is rolled to the Indian Standard, the outside diameters, threads and sockets interconnect, and the galvanising is to the same specification — a Star socket takes a Hissar nipple without complaint.

The catch is contractual, not physical. If the contract names a single make, mixing can fail inspection however well the joint fits, so get the consultant's nod first. In practice, when a size runs short mid-run we would rather finish it in one make from the nearest plant than have you mix — ask us and we check stock before you commit.

Questions

Jindal Star vs Jindal Hissar — FAQ

Are Jindal Star and Jindal Hissar the same company?

No — two different makers, Jindal Pipes Limited and Jindal Industries Pvt. Ltd. The Who Makes Each Brand table has the full detail.

Which is cheaper?

It flips by size once each brand's discount is applied, so only a net quote answers it — the reasoning is in Which Brand Is Cheaper.

Are the pipe weights different between the two brands?

No. Weight and thickness are fixed by the Indian Standard, so a given size and class matches across brands within tolerance.

Which brand makes hollow sections and box pipe?

Jindal Hissar, to IS:4923 — see the section-pipe charts. Jindal Star's line is round pipe.

Which brand for very large diameters?

Jindal Star, whose range reaches 600MM. Above 400MM it is the one to ask for.

Are both ISI marked?

Yes — each is ISI-marked to Indian Standards, and genuine material carries the ISI mark with the maker's trademark.

Do you stock and quote them together?

Yes — one quotation covers each brand side by side, from ready stock in Delhi with pan-India dispatch.

Is one brand's material better quality?

No — identical standards mean equivalent quality. Decide on fit, net price and freight, not on quality.

My tender says “Jindal make” only — is Hissar acceptable?

Usually yes — a generic clause is met by either ISI-marked make — but an approved-makes list is contractual, so confirm in writing first. The approved-makes section covers how to close it.

How do I check the pipe I received is genuine?

Read the markings, then match the test certificate's heat / lot numbers to the pipe — the full checklist is in How to Identify Genuine Material. Photos are enough for us to confirm.

Can Star and Hissar pipe be joined together?

Physically yes, since the fittings interconnect; contractually only if a single make is not mandated — the detail is in mixing on one project.

Do you provide test certificates with delivery?

Yes — each dispatch can carry its mill test certificate, with QAP, catalogue and tender documents on request. See the documentation list.

Someone quoted me a much cheaper “Jindal” — should I worry?

If it sits far below the market net of either genuine make, be cautious — the name is heavily imitated. Ask for marking photos and the test certificate, or send the details for us to sense-check.
