VS forged steel pipe fittings are made to ASME B16.11-2011 and IS:4712:2011 for the socket weld and high-pressure threaded classes, and to IS:1239 (Part 2) 2011 with BS EN 10241-2000 for the 1000 LBS threaded range. Classes run 1000 to 9000 Lbs, in carbon steel, stainless and low-alloy grades, with NPT, BSPT and BSP thread ends.

Quality & testing

Tested to Class, Certified with Every Order

Every fitting is leak-tested to its class — 1000 to 6000 PSIG hydraulic on the threaded classes, 3000 to 9000 PSIG on socket weld — and test certificates go out with every order. End connections are checked against calibrated plug gauges and thread plug gauges. Ready stock at our Delhi warehouse, dispatched pan-India.

The range

The VS Range of Forged Steel Pipe Fittings

A forged fitting starts life as a solid steel billet and is squeezed into shape under a press or a hammer. Nothing is poured, so there is no porosity to leak through and the grain of the steel follows the contour of the finished part. That is the whole reason forged fittings hold pressures that would burst a cast or malleable fitting of the same size, and why they are the default for small-bore work on refinery, boiler, chemical and ash-handling lines.

The range splits by end type. Socket weld fittings have a bored socket: the pipe drops in and is fillet welded, giving a permanent joint with no thread to leak — available in 3000, 6000 and 9000 Lbs. Threaded fittings screw onto the pipe thread, so the line can be broken again for maintenance — available in 1000, 2000, 3000 and 6000 Lbs, in NPT, BSPT and BSP.

Across both end types the item names are the same ones you will find on any bill of quantities: elbow 90°, elbow 45°, reducing elbow, male/female elbow, tee, reducing tee, cross, union, socket/coupling, reducing socket, hex nipple, reducing hex nipple, plug, hex bush, weldolet, thredolet, sockolet and swage nipple.

Forged fittings, explained

What Are Forged Steel Pipe Fittings?

Forged steel pipe fittings are small-bore pipe fittings — typically 1/8" to 4" — formed from solid steel bar or billet by forging, then machined to a standard bore and end. They are rated by a pressure class expressed in pounds: 1000, 2000, 3000, 6000 and 9000 Lbs. The number is a class designation, not a weight and not a direct pressure in psi.

Why forging beats casting for pressure duty

Casting solidifies from liquid, which leaves shrinkage porosity and a random grain structure. Forging works the metal in the solid state: voids are closed under pressure and the grain flow is aligned with the shape of the part, so the material is strongest exactly where the fitting is most highly stressed — at the crotch of a tee, the throat of an elbow, the root of a thread.

The practical result is a much higher pressure and temperature rating for the same nominal size, plus far better resistance to shock loading, vibration and thermal cycling. That is why forged fittings, not cast ones, are specified on steam headers and process lines.

The two end types

Socket weld. The fitting is bored to accept the pipe OD. The pipe is inserted, backed off slightly to leave an expansion gap at the bottom of the socket, then fillet welded around the outside. Permanent, strong and leak-free — specified where a threaded joint would not be accepted.

Threaded. The fitting carries an internal (or, on M/F and nipple patterns, an external) taper thread. It makes up on the pipe thread with sealant and can be broken again. Faster to install, no hot work, and the right choice for utility, air, water and light steam lines.

How a class is chosen

Work from the line, not the catalogue. Establish the design pressure and design temperature of the line, apply the pressure–temperature rating for the material grade at that temperature, and pick the class that covers it with margin. Then confirm the end type is what the piping specification calls for.

On the VS range the two stocked classes are 1000 LBS threaded and 3000 LBS socket weld; 2000, 6000 and 9000 Lbs and the swage nipples are supplied on enquiry.

Why buy here

Buying VS Forged Fittings from Vijay Sales Corporation

Tested and certified to its class

Threaded fittings are hydraulically leak-tested at 1000, 2000, 3000 or 6000 PSIG according to class; socket weld at 3000, 6000 or 9000 PSIG. Threads and sockets are gauged, not eyeballed.

Read the QAP (PDF) — and ask for material test certificates against heat numbers at the enquiry stage if your inspection regime needs them.

Ready stock, dispatched pan-India

The stocked classes sit on the shelf at our Delhi warehouse, so a standard 1000 LBS threaded or 3000 LBS socket weld list usually ships the same week — typically 2–6 days to destination.

Send the whole bill of quantities, not just the difficult lines. We will tell you plainly what is in stock and what has to be called in, before you commit.

Trade terms you can plan against

Published LIST rates with the extras stated up front — galvanising, threading standard, cap socket and 45° elbows all carry a defined percentage, so you can build a landed cost before you ask for a quote.

See the price list and terms. Rates are per piece, Ex-Delhi warehouse, GST 18% extra.

Dimensions

Forged Fittings Dimension Charts — 1000 to 9000 Lbs

Every dimensional table from the VS catalogue, grouped by class. Tap a panel to open its chart. All dimensions in millimetres.

Reading the charts

The letters below follow the drawings in the VS catalogue. On socket weld patterns: B is the socket bore, D the bore of the fitting, C the socket wall thickness, J the minimum depth of socket, A the centre to bottom of socket (centre to end on the threaded patterns), G the body wall thickness and E the laying length between sockets on couplings. On threaded patterns H is the outside diameter and L2 (with B) the minimum length of thread. On reducing patterns the suffixes 1 and 2 distinguish the run from the branch.

Where a column is headed Min. or Max., that figure is an inspection limit, not a target dimension — it is the boundary a fitting must fall within to pass, so a compliant part will sit somewhere inside the stated band rather than exactly on it. All dimensions are in millimetres.

If a dimension is critical to your fit-up, say so before you order and we will physically verify it against the stock we hold and confirm the measured figure back to you. That is quicker for both of us than discovering a clash on site.

8 cell(s) are blank on the catalogue page and are shown as — — see the flagged-cells note below.

Flagged cells. A small number of cells are blank on the printed catalogue page — chiefly the 2-1/2" (65NB) row of the 6000 Lbs socket weld tables and four T2 columns in the 6000 Lbs swage nipple table. Those are shown here as an em-dash rather than being filled in by interpolation. Where the catalogue prints a figure that breaks the pattern of its neighbours, the printed figure is reproduced exactly and the discrepancy is recorded in our source file rather than silently corrected. Ask us and we will measure the part.

Packing

Packing — Pieces Per Bag

VS forged fittings are supplied in standard woven bags. The counts below are the pieces per full bag, by item and size — useful for working out how many bags a large order comes to, and for checking a received consignment against the packing list without opening every bag. Sizes shown as an em-dash are not packed in that item.

Specification

Standards, Materials, Ends & Testing

ASME B16.11-2011 / IS:4712:2011

The governing standards for forged steel high pressure pipe fittings with socket welding and threaded end connections. They set the socket bore, socket depth, wall thickness and centre-to-end dimensions for the 2000, 3000, 6000 and 9000 Lbs classes reproduced above.

IS:1239 (Part 2) 2011 / BS EN 10241-2000

The standards for the 1000 LBS threaded range. Material carries a minimum tensile strength of 320 N/mm², and threads comply with IS-554:1985. Sizes on this range are called out by nominal bore in millimetres rather than in inches.

Materials

Carbon steel: ASTM A-105, A-350 LF2, A-106.

Stainless & low alloy: ASTM A-182 in F-304, F-304L, F-316, F-316L, F-304H, F-316H, F-317L, F-321, F-11, F-22 and F-91.

End connections

Socket weld to the bore and depth tabulated above, or threaded in NPT, BSPT and BSP. End connections are verified with calibrated plug gauges and thread plug gauges before dispatch. State the threading standard on the enquiry — BSPT/NPT carries a price extra.

Leak testing

Threaded: 1000 PSIG hydraulic for the IS:1239 Part-2 range; 2000, 3000 and 6000 PSIG hydraulic for the 2000, 3000 and 6000 Lbs classes.

Socket weld: 3000, 6000 and 9000 PSIG hydraulic for the 3000, 6000 and 9000 Lbs classes.

Finishing

Carbon steel is supplied galvanized or black, low alloy steel black, and stainless pickled. The black finish is pre-treated against rust formation prior to packaging.

Hot galvanising is to IS:4736-1986 and is available to order on the carbon steel range.

From the counter

Three Things Worth Getting Right Before You Order

1. Match the class to the line pressure

Start from the design pressure and design temperature of the line and the material grade, not from what the last job used. A 3000 Lbs socket weld fitting and a 1000 LBS threaded fitting of the same nominal size are not interchangeable, and substituting down is the single most common cause of a rejected fit-up.

2. Confirm the end type and threading standard up front

Socket weld or threaded is the first fork; NPT, BSPT or BSP is the second. Mixing BSP and NPT on the same line will make up hand-tight and then leak under pressure. Threading standard is also a priced extra, so naming it at enquiry keeps the quote firm.

3. Send the full BOQ, not just the awkward lines

Give us the whole schedule with sizes, classes, ends and quantities. We will tell you what is on the shelf, what is a call-in, and where a reducing pattern would save you a coupling — before you place the order rather than after.

About VS Forged Steel Pipe Fittings

The VS brand of forged steel pipe fittings has been in the Indian market since 1950 and carries the line "The No.1 Forged Steel Pipe Fittings". The range is built to ASME B16.11-2011 and IS:4712:2011 for the socket weld and high-pressure threaded classes, and to IS:1239 (Part 2) 2011 with BS EN 10241-2000 for the 1000 LBS threaded range.

Fittings are supplied in carbon steel to ASTM A-105, A-350 LF2 and A-106, and in stainless and low-alloy grades to ASTM A-182. Every fitting is leak-tested hydraulically to its class, and end connections are proved against calibrated plug gauges and thread plug gauges. The standard finish is black, pre-treated to prevent rust formation before packaging; carbon steel fittings can also be hot galvanised to IS:4736-1986.

The brand's own application notes place VS fittings across refineries and petrochemicals, steam turbines and boilers, desalination plants, ash handling, sugar and paper mills, reaction vessels, shipbuilding, railways, the automobile industry, fire-fighting systems, pneumatics, textiles and gas storage.

Questions

VS Forged Fittings — Technical FAQs

What are the dimensions of a 1/2" socket weld elbow?

For the 1/2" (15NB) socket weld elbow in 3000 Lbs, the socket bore is 21.8–22.2 mm, the minimum socket wall thickness is 4.67 mm and the minimum depth of socket is 10.5 mm. Centre to bottom of socket is 15.5–17.0 mm and the minimum body wall is 3.73 mm. Dimensions are per ASME B16.11-2011 / IS:4712:2011 Class 20 — see the full chart under Socket Weld 3000 Lbs.

What materials and grades are VS forged fittings made in?

Carbon steel to ASTM A-105, A-350 LF2 and A-106. Stainless and low-alloy grades to ASTM A-182 — F-304, F-304L, F-316, F-316L, F-304H, F-316H, F-317L, F-321, F-11, F-22 and F-91. Carbon steel is supplied galvanized or black, low alloy steel black, and stainless pickled.

What thread types are available?

NPT, BSPT and BSP threaded end connections. On the 1000 LBS threaded range to IS:1239 Part-2, threads comply with IS-554:1985. End connections are checked with calibrated plug gauges and thread plug gauges. BSPT or NPT threading carries a price extra — see the price list terms.

What are the test pressures for each class?

Threaded fittings are hydraulically leak-tested at 2000 PSIG, 3000 PSIG and 6000 PSIG for the 2000, 3000 and 6000 Lbs classes respectively, and at 1000 PSIG for the 1000 LBS range to IS:1239 Part-2. Socket weld fittings are tested at 3000, 6000 and 9000 PSIG for the 3000, 6000 and 9000 Lbs classes. The 1000 LBS threaded material carries a minimum tensile strength of 320 N/mm².

Is there a VS forged fittings catalogue PDF?

Yes — download the VS forged fittings catalogue PDF. It carries the drawings and dimension charts for every class from 1000 Lbs through 9000 Lbs plus the swage nipples. The dimension tables on this page are transcribed from that catalogue.

Do fittings come with test certificates and a QAP?

Yes. Every fitting is leak-tested to its class and test certificates go out with every order. The quality assurance plan is published — VS forged fittings QAP (PDF). Tell us at the enquiry stage if you need material test certificates against specific heat numbers.

Where can I see the prices?

Rates for the two stocked classes — 1000 LBS threaded and 3000 LBS socket weld — are published in full on the VS forged fittings price list, along with the galvanising and threading extras and the commercial terms. Sizes and classes outside that list are quoted on enquiry.

How many pieces of VS forged fittings come in a bag?

Bag counts vary by item and by size — the smaller the fitting, the more go in a bag. A full bag holds 300 pieces of 1/2" elbow but only 30 pieces of 2" elbow, and the small threaded items run much higher: 7,000 pieces of 1/8" plug to a bag. The full count for every item and size is in the packing table above. Part bags are supplied against smaller quantities.

Do you supply pan-India?

Yes. Fittings are held in ready stock at our Delhi warehouse and dispatched pan-India, typically 2–6 days depending on destination. Send the full bill of quantities and we will confirm what is on the shelf and what needs to be called in.

Methodology. Every dimension chart on this page is transcribed cell by cell from the VS forged fittings catalogue and cross-checked against the standards it cites — ASME B16.11-2011, IS:4712:2011, IS:1239 (Part 2) 2011 / BS EN 10241-2000, MSS SP-83-2006 and BS 3799:1974. Where the catalogue page is blank, the cell is left as an em-dash rather than interpolated, and the omission is flagged. Nothing on this page is estimated.

Dimensions on this page are reproduced from the VS forged fittings catalogue and are given in millimetres. Columns headed Min. or Max. are inspection limits, not target dimensions. Standards are cited as printed in that catalogue; where a specification is critical, work from the current edition of the standard itself and ask us to verify the part against stock.
