VS IBR socket weld fittings are forged carbon steel A105 elbows, tees, unions and sockets made to ASME B16.11-2011. The pipe end sits in the fitting’s socket and is joined with a fillet weld. In 3000# all four fittings are listed from 8 mm (1/4") to 80 mm (3"); in 6000# the elbow, tee and socket are listed from 8 mm to 65 mm (2-1/2"). Every piece comes with an IBR test certificate in Form III-C.

VS IBR NPT threaded fittings are forged carbon steel A105 elbows, tees, unions and sockets made to ASME B16.11-2011, with an NPT taper pipe thread that screws on to the pipe. In 3000# all four fittings are listed from 8 mm (1/4") to 65 mm (2-1/2"); in 6000# the elbow, tee and socket are listed from 8 mm to 50 mm (2"). Every piece comes with an IBR test certificate in Form III-C.

Socket weld or NPT — which should I choose?
Choose by the joint your line uses. A socket weld (S.W.) fitting takes the pipe end into a socket and is joined with a fillet weld. An NPT fitting has a taper pipe thread and is screwed on. Both are listed in 3000# and 6000#; your piping specification decides which one the line calls for.
What does 3000# or 6000# mean?
3000# and 6000# are pressure classes under ASME B16.11, the standard these forged fittings are made to, and 6000# is the higher class. Match the class to your piping specification. Take pressure-temperature ratings from ASME B16.11 or your piping consultant.
Which sizes are available?
Socket weld fittings run 8 mm to 80 mm (1/4" to 3") in 3000# and 8 mm to 65 mm (2-1/2") in 6000#. NPT threaded fittings run 8 mm to 65 mm in 3000# and 8 mm to 50 mm (2") in 6000#. Unions are listed in 3000# only. The variants tables on this page show every fitting.
What is Form III-C?
Form III-C is the IBR test certificate supplied with fittings for service under the Indian Boiler Regulations. Every VS IBR forged fitting comes with one, for every piece. Our IBR fittings page explains IBR certification and Form III-C in more detail.
How are forged IBR fittings different from butt-weld IBR fittings?
Forged IBR fittings are small-bore, ASME B16.11, A105, joined by a socket fillet weld or an NPT thread, 8 mm to 80 mm. Butt-weld IBR fittings are ASTM A234 WPB to ASME B16.9, 15 to 300 NB, joined by a full-penetration butt weld. For butt-weld needs see IBR butt-weld fittings.
